at the young age of 19, I opted to never perm/relax my hair again. around that time, I became enlightened with Knowledge of Self. you couldn't tell me nothing because I was living right and everyone else should be living like I was and believing like I believed. and yes, I became a "Natural Nazi" as Jia would say. fast forward to 2006, some 14 years later and i saw a hairstyle i wanted to wear, so i got my hair straightened. I didn't change, my heart, spirit, knowledge, none of that changed. just my hair. I'm not mad at the sistas on YT for trying to get the masses converted. but some of the things I've heard said on these videos are ridiculous. i say that because i used to say the same thing. the thing we need to know and understand is just because a sista has a perm/relaxer/weave DOES NOT mean she's any less a Black woman. period.songs are (1) Pete Rock & CL Smooth "In the House (last 20 secs.) and (2) Pete Rock "Get Involved"

I don't care how a Black woman wears her hair. I just hate when we make stupid statements like, " I won't look right with my natural hair"..Pause....Umm...How can You not look right with the hair that you were naturally born with? I also feel that when women say,"I don't wear my hair naturally because I don't know what to do with it" is a sad,sad statement.

This is a powerful video because it addresses the issues and refutes the counter arguments. I loved it!I've had natural hair all my life.I've struggled with the same guilts of getting a perm. I didn't want people to think I wanted to be white or anything less than black. Now I'm 19 and I have no desire to alter my hair, however when it's straight its easier to manage.

I agree with this. I recently cut my long locks of 20 years. I just needed a change. Most people thought I had committed a sacrilege of some sort. Now I am wearing them short like bob-length. But I am very interested in combing them out and rocking a big Angela Davis AFRO. I want to bring back the afro like the seventies. peas!

India Arie "I Am Not My hair".Besides, everyone forgets that the Egyptian and African women rocked wigs/braids/extensions AND hair color. Were they ashamed of their skin back then too?? Exactly. No...to the point where it would be laughable to think so. Black women have always been/are/and always will be hair pioneers. Since Africa encompasses EVERY hair type and skin color, can you truly act anything other than African? Good video.

and you still embody power and you still embody truth and no one can take that from you! if you rock it purple, green or red, you'd still be leading the REVOLUTION!fuck what they saying!

So true! i love this video a couple of people have called themselves dissing me because of my hair color and I just let it go because the truth is I could never look white even if I wanted to! I wear me hair blond because it looks good on me and reflects my rebel nature! Nothing more, nothing less! Iam still me regardless.

missteek08 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
and i think it is rather sad that BW harp over this bull. who in the hell said they were ashamed of any damn thing? at the end of the day, you are still black with bills to pay. this isnt an anti-natural vid. but im sick of natural nazis speaking for every BW and why she does what with her hair. get over it.
eninotna (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
but still it was sad 2 see a young bw b ashame of her own hair. Its ok 2 straighten & weear weave if u want a change or diff. but I thinks these young bg r getting the wrong msg that there's somethin wrong w/there own hair-even though i use 2 blow out my hair I've decided not 2 even do that I'm sick and tired of being a walkin advertisement 4 white beauty- i mean really how can we be mad @ bm 4 picking the real thing over us. SOrry just my opinion
