The Eastern Aces - What Kind Of Fool (Live 60's Recording)This Indorock band had been primarily active between the years 1960-1972 and was grounded in Den Haag (The Hague) by lead guitarist Wally Swartz and bass player Tony Lentze who made up the first line up together with guitarist Richard Bastiaans and drummer Loekie Diks.Other names that joined the Eastern Aces over the years are Bob Lammers, Frans van den Brand Horninge, Joop Ketting Olivier, Harry Bredow, Eddy Skinny Haighton, Will Ede van der Pals, Tony Ede van der Pals, Boy van der Voet, George Gabriël, Billy Robert, Jack van Beek, John Pors and Freddy van der Worm.In 1961 the Eastern Aces started working in Germany at Bernhardts Eck in Hanau. From there on the band would go to many other German cities such as Aschaffenburg, Nürnberg, München, Kitzingen am Main, Frankfurt, Münster, etc.The Eastern Aces also performed in Belgium and recorded a French sung 7" vinyl single (Newtone NT 735) over there with a singer called Kris Doogan. Also 2 singles were released on another Belgium record label, called Show Records. The first one was You Know I Love You/Stand By Me (Show SH 1081) and the second one was The Way You Treat Me/Everybody (Show SH 1082).In 1965 the Eastern Aces went to Paris, France and performed in and around that area for a period of 2 years.During that period they recorded 4 tracks in the studio for an E.P. (Warclay WAH 4722).The band returned to Holland in 1967 and continued performing until 1972, the moment drummer Frans van den Brand Horninge ended his profesional music carreer. The remaining bandmembers regrouped and renamed themselves the Royal Aces which would eventually become the (Seven) Aces and the Aces Unlimited in the second half of the 70s.Both the (Seven) Aces as well as Aces Unlimited were primarily active in Germany and surrounding countries.By that time several line up changes had gone by and a fresh start was made with new names such as Harry James de Vries (Cherokees, Wendy and the Gardenias) and Nono de Vries (the Pacifics, the Tornados, Rhine River Union). The final end of the Aces era came in the early 80s when the bandname was changed into the Matahari. The Matahari still were very succesful in Germany, but eventually went back to the Netherlands. The Matahari remained active as a band all through the 80s and part of the 90s.In the 90's Frans van den Brand Horninge and various other original former Eastern Aces bandmembers teamed up together and started performing again.
