Elvis was in ill health at the time this was filmed and didn't feel like doing the special. But, ill health or no, he did the special. The spoken part of AYLT in which Elvis goofed up had in the past been intentional clowning on his part. That appeared to be the case here initially but one can see that Elvis wasn't feeling very well. He should've been home resting and recuperating instead of being run to death with the constant touring.
